Take an Eco-Friendly Tour with Israel Travel Company

We’ve seen that environmentally conscious tourism is becoming more than a buzz word, what with government initiatives stepping in, and the various alternatives in eco-tourism that Israel now offers–including Kazakh yurts!

Australian-born tour guide Zel Lederman customizes personal tours for groups and families with Israel Travel Company: Israel Off theĀ  Beaten Track, including tours with environmental themes. Tours canĀ  include an exploration of organic agriculture, clean technology, walksĀ  along the Israel National Trail,Ā  bike riding adventures, and tours onĀ  horseback.

One of Lederman’s tours was covered in Maariv (in Hebrew) — a five-day walk in the Golan for 15 members of a UIA Mission ofĀ  Australian Jewish Doctors who walk every year both in Australia and Overseas.Ā  “They wanted to walk in Israel rather than in Tuscany or France,” says Lederman.

Lederman explains what an environmental awareness in touring Israel means to him:

“My personal experience with travelers has been that walking the land helps people connect both more deeply to themselves and to the land of Israel, and perhaps to understand more the environmental issues that we face–not as a heavy ideological issue, but as a walker who sees, smells and feels the beautiful and historically saturated landscapesĀ  andĀ  is confronted up close with the environmental challenges that confront us. ”

Lederman isn’t being passive about litter in Israel, either. “Each ofĀ  the Israel Travel Company tours tries to leave the areas we haveĀ  traveled through cleaner,” says Lederman.

“The Company is developing a
campaign with other interested parties to take practical steps to keep the Israel National Trail clean of litter.”

Lederman’s specialized tours can include some unusual and fascinatingĀ  themes. One of these is the Spice Route Trail Tour from the Egyptian border at Nizzana to Moa and Petra.

The attractions of this tour are manifold, as Lederman explains, “This is a tour whichcan really give travelers an understanding of the Israeli Negev regions, the NabateanĀ  and modern agricultural techniques, water
conservation, and wine growing in what we hope is a truly unforgettable experience with walking, biking, horseriding and 4×4 options.”

Self-repairing contact lenses and desalination membranes that fix themselves?

Could the humble contact lens become a sustainability breakthrough? Researchers in Korea have developed a self-healing hydrogel lens that repairs scratches with just one hour of UV light exposure. Beyond reducing waste from disposable contacts, the technology could one day help extend the life of solar panels, water filtration systems, and other plastic-based products.

Who Owns the Farm Robot? A State of Jefferson Startup Takes on Carbon Robotics

In California's self-proclaimed State of Jefferson, a small agricultural technology company is challenging the dominant laser-weeding business model. Laudando & Associates believes farmers should own and repair their AI-powered weeding tools rather than pay ongoing subscription fees. The approach has put the company on a collision course with industry leader Carbon Robotics, sparking a patent dispute that has pushed the Jefferson startup toward overseas markets while raising broader questions about ownership, right-to-repair, and the future of farm automation.

Dan Zaslavsky’s energy tower dream is rising again in Iran and China

The Energy Tower idea never made the leap from drawings and engineering studies to full-scale construction. But nearly two decades after most people stopped talking about it, the concept is quietly evolving in two unexpected places: China and Iran. The concept let dreamers dream and doers do - figuring out more pleasing designs and engineering.

Choosing Riyadh over Dubai? What Investors Should Know

Saudi Arabia is deploying capital at unmatched scale to catalyze tourism and advanced industry while rewiring its power-and-water backbone. The investable frontier is widening—especially in renewables, grid storage, water efficiency/desal retrofits, and hospitality operating platforms. Prudent investors will insist on phased delivery, enforceable KPIs (energy, water, biodiversity), and RHQ/zone compliance—while pricing political-economy and reputational risks alongside growth upside.

Big Box stores are a pretty new concept in Israel, and thank God that not every Israeli city wants them in their backyard. A word from someone who has see the beautiful farmland around her hometown Newmarket, Ontario stripped and converted into vulgar strip malls of big box shops: they have no place in a healthy and sustainable town or city.

The Jewish National Fund Meets An Inconvenient Truth

According to the JNF, it has transformed thousands of acres of barren land into green forests in Israel. They state that each person emits about 23 tons of carbon per year, estimating that each tree planted can absorb one ton of carbon in its lifetime. That's a whole lot of trees you'd need to be planting. Could so many fit in Israel?
