The Green Business Blog Carnival #25

green business blog carnival Green Prophet hosts the Green Business Blog Carnival. Step right up for hot green business news.

A travelling circus is our chance for a brief moment in the year to see sights, sounds and acts from far and oft. For a week or more the old dusty parking lot near the strip mall is transformed into a exhibition of dazzling lights, smells and people – that draws in the entire community, young or old.

And if the circus is really good we learn something about human nature and ourselves. This week Green Prophet is host to a carnival of sorts, the Green Business Blog Carnival where we pick up the big carnival ferris wheel, spin it, and show our faithful readers some highlights from green business blogs that are reporting from around the world. We find eBay e-cycling, Facebook smart gridding (?), and some surprising “for prophet”, we mean “for profit” eco-villages. Check out the news below.

Facebook has changed everything about the way we socialize, share online and keep our memories safe. Facebook gives us a democratization of information, while smart grid promises democratization of electricity – giving consumers the ability to control at their fingertips power production, distribution and consumption. Who’s up to the challenge of building the new “Facebook” for smart grid technology? (Clean Techies)

We’d suggest using their feet but Chinese inventors have released an all-electric bike with built-in solar-powered recharging capacity designed to cut down on traffic and pollution in densely populated cities. It’s call the Patrolman, and looks like an iPod Nano on 2 wheels. (CalFinder)

E-Cycle with eBay in an instant? In less than five minutes, eBay sellers will give you a cash offer for your old electronics: type in the name, make, and model of your device, answer a few simple questions about item condition, and voila! Get a cash offer (and a free shipping label) instantly. What are you waiting for? (sustainablog)

It’s not where you do it, it’s the work you do: today in a new “Flexspace” environment office workers are breaking down walls and silos, and reducing real estate costs and carbon printprints. One company in the travel technology industry gives the best tips for success in this evolving idea of office space. (Triple Pundit)

Ecovillages don’t get a lot of press coverage, and they’re often associated with the word commune, and even cult. Maybe not in Israel where ecovillages and kibbutzes have a pretty favorable reputation. But, as Jeff points out, there are many ecovillages in America that are in the “business” for profit. A nice green profit. Look at the tip of the iceberg. (sundance channel)

Rupert Murdoch, Dick Cheney, and Lord Jacob Rothschild are invested in developing Genie – and what could be a multi-billion dollar business of oil exploration in Israel. Gore calls such business utter insanity. An open letter was sent to David de R, Jacob’s second cousin, and David de Rothschild (yep, the eco-hunk) responded. (Green Prophet)

If you’d like to join the rambling Green Business Blog Carnival bloggers can submit relevant posts for future carnivals at Triplepundit. The schedule for hosting is available at sustainablog. With a holiday for “thanks”, two weeks ago the Green Business Blog Carnival was hosted by Earth and Industry and next week, December 10, it will be rolling over to Doc’s Green Blog. Step right up.
