LycoRed Makes Vegetarian Omega 3 For Your Candy

"omega 3 candy vegetarian"Getting your sustainable, vegetarian Omega 3 supplements is easy when they’re hidden inside delicious confections.

Getting kids to take their vitamins can be tough, which is why kids’ vitamins conveniently come in all kinds of fun shapes, colors, and flavors.  I was a Flintstone vitamin kid myself, but I had friends who took vitamins disguised as gummy candies or toffees.  But when it comes to making adult vitamins and supplements, for some reason manufacturers don’t see the need to make them fun.  How about Centrum Plus vitamins shaped like the cast of Glee?  Folic Acid supplements in the form of gummy worms?

LycoRed, an Israeli-based company, recently came up with an idea to get adult vegetarians to take their Omega 3 supplements. Make the supplements themselves vegetarian (and stop sourcing them from fish oil), and make them tasteless and suitable for use in baked and confectionery goods.

"lycored omega 3 vegetarian"The company’s new line of Omega 3 supplements, called “Lyc-O-Mega 10 AL”, was launched this past month and is made from DHA algae oil – making the supplements fish and odor free.

Udi Alroy, the Vice President of Global Marketing & Sales at LycoRed, said that “it is not only the taste and quality that are important, but also the positive opinion of the European Food Safety Authority [EFSA].  We succeeded in creating unique Omega-3 formula thanks to our proprietary microencapsulation technology.  It provides all the health benefits of Omega-3 that is derived from fish source, with perfect bland taste for a wide range of applications.”

In other words, LycoRed has made the “tofu” of Omega-3 supplements – the supplement will take on the flavor of whatever you add to it.  A little Omega-3 blended in with your chocolate pudding?  Yum.

Successful trials have already been conducted to integrate the Lyc-O-Mega 10 AL into chocolates, crackers, and bread without negatively effecting the taste profile of the end product.

What are AWG air-water generators, and why they aren’t a golden-bullet solution (yet)

Atmospheric water generators (AWGs) sound like magic: machines that can pull drinking water out of air. The idea is mentioned in the Bible, where the elders would pray for water collected as dew on plants and the catch on turning this into a machine is in the physics. To turn invisible vapor into liquid, you must remove heat, especially the latent heat of condensation.

The Saudi Startup Turning Desalination’s Toxic Waste Into Its Own Disinfectant

For millennia, the Middle East's water crisis seemed an immutable fact of geography — a region defined as much by what it lacked as by what lay beneath its sands. Today, a convergence of plummeting solar costs, advancing membrane technology, and hard-won engineering expertise is rewriting that story.
