Eco friendly lighting is great for space and the environment

In the quest for a greener and more sustainable lifestyle, every choice we make matters. From energy-efficient appliances to solar panels, each decision contributes to reducing our carbon footprint and preserving the environment for future generations. Among these choices, incorporating roof lights into your eco-design strategy is a brilliant way to enhance your living space while promoting environmental sustainability.

Harnessing Natural Light

One of the primary eco-friendly advantages of roof lights is their ability to harness natural light. By allowing sunlight to stream directly into your living space, you can significantly reduce your reliance on artificial lighting during the day. This not only cuts down on your energy consumption but also minimises the need for electricity generation, which often contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Natural light offers a plethora of benefits beyond just energy savings, including improving mood, boosting productivity, and enhancing the overall ambiance of your home.

Energy Efficiency

Roof lights play a vital role in boosting the energy efficiency of your home. By effectively utilising daylight, you can decrease your reliance on electric lighting, particularly during daylight hours. This reduction in energy consumption translates to lower electricity bills and a smaller carbon footprint. Moreover, the strategic placement of roof lights can facilitate passive solar heating during colder months, contributing to the overall warmth of your living space without relying heavily on heating systems.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

An essential aspect of sustainable living is the reduction of carbon emissions. Roof lights play a significant role in this regard by minimising the need for artificial lighting. The energy saved from using natural light directly reduces the demand for electricity, which, in turn, helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions produced by power plants. When multiplied across numerous households, the collective impact of incorporating roof lights into eco-friendly designs becomes substantial.

Connection to Nature

Modern lifestyles often disconnect us from nature, but roof lights offer a unique opportunity to reconnect. These fixtures allow you to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside, allowing you to enjoy the changing patterns of sunlight, the gentle patter of raindrops, and even the sight of the stars at night. This connection to nature not only enhances your living experience but also reinforces the importance of preserving the environment.

Versatility and Aesthetics

Roof lights come in various designs, allowing you to choose options that align with your eco-design preferences. From sleek and modern styles to more rustic and natural designs, you can find a roof light that complements your overall interior aesthetic while still maintaining an eco-friendly focus. Moreover, reputable suppliers even offer roof lights that are designed to be walked on, providing both functionality and design appeal for outdoor spaces or rooftop gardens.

A Holistic Approach to Green Living

Incorporating roof lights into your eco-friendly design strategy showcases a holistic approach to green living. By optimising the use of natural light, reducing energy consumption, and fostering a connection with the environment, you’re making a conscious effort to create a sustainable and harmonious living space.

The eco-friendly benefits of roof lights extend beyond mere aesthetics. They hold the power to transform your living space into an energy-efficient haven that promotes both well-being and environmental sustainability. By harnessing natural light, increasing energy efficiency, reducing your carbon footprint, and fostering a connection to nature, you’re contributing to a greener future. So, whether you’re building a new home or renovating an existing one, consider the positive impact of roof lights on your eco-design journey. You can even get a roof light you can walk on from reputable suppliers, further expanding the possibilities for sustainable outdoor spaces.

Beyond Money: Exploring Essential Business  Capital Resources

0

Wind energy businesses are so capital intense that investors are often banks.

In the realm of business, capital resources go far beyond mere financial assets. While  money is undoubtedly a crucial factor in any organization’s success, a capital resource encompasses a broader spectrum of assets that drive growth, innovation, and  competitiveness. In this article, we will delve into the various types of capital resources that  businesses should harness to thrive in today’s dynamic landscape.

Financial Capital: The Foundation of Business Operations

Financial capital, often synonymous with money, forms the bedrock of any business venture.  It includes the funds necessary for funding operations, investments, and day-to-day  activities. However, a capital resource extends beyond the digits on a balance sheet. It  encompasses the effective management and allocation of financial resources to maximize  growth and profitability. Consider the following aspects:

  • Access to equity capital and debt capital: Businesses can raise funds through  various channels, such as private investors, venture capitalists, or loans from  financial institutions.
  • Working capital management: Effective management of cash flow, accounts  receivable, and accounts payable ensures smooth operations and financial stability.
  • Financial planning and budgeting: Developing sound financial strategies and  setting realistic budgets are critical for long-term sustainability and growth.

Human Capital: Unleashing the Power of Talent

Solar Panels Time Magazine
Solar panels are changing lives in Lebanon. People are going “green” without even realizing it. But setting up panels and running the business requires a coordinated staff.

While financial capital may fuel a business, it is the people within the organization who  transform it into a living, breathing entity. Human capital, the collective skills, knowledge, and  expertise of employees, is a capital resource that holds immense value. Acquiring and  developing a talented workforce is essential for businesses to thrive. Consider the following  aspects:

  • Talent acquisition and recruitment: Employing effective hiring practices, including  sourcing and selection methods, helps attract top talent to the organization.
  • Training and development: Investing in employee training programs, mentorship,  and professional development cultivates a skilled workforce capable of driving  innovation and adaptability.
  • Employee engagement and retention: Fostering a positive work environment,  offering competitive compensation packages, and providing growth opportunities play  a crucial role in retaining valuable employees.

Physical Capital: Building Blocks for Efficiency and Growth

Physical capital comprises the tangible assets that enable businesses to operate efficiently  and drive growth. Infrastructure, machinery, equipment, and technology form part of this  capital resource. These assets enhance productivity, streamline processes, and amplify  operational capabilities. Consider the following aspects:

  • Infrastructure investment: Building and maintaining physical infrastructure, such as  offices, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities, provides a solid foundation for  business operations.
  • Technology adoption: Incorporating cutting-edge technology, software systems,  and automation tools can optimize workflows, increase efficiency, and improve  product or service quality.
  • Equipment and machinery: Investing in high-quality equipment and machinery  ensures smooth production processes, reduces downtime, and enhances overall  operational performance.

Intellectual Capital: Nurturing Innovation and Creativity

In today’s knowledge-based economy, intellectual capital holds significant sway. It  encompasses intangible assets such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.  These forms of capital resources empower businesses to protect their innovations, create  unique value propositions, and differentiate themselves in the market. Consider the following  aspects:

  • Intellectual property protection: Safeguarding inventions, designs, and proprietary  knowledge through patents, copyrights, and trademarks is vital for maintaining a  competitive edge.
  • Knowledge management: Implementing knowledge-sharing platforms,  documentation processes, and organizational learning initiatives facilitates the  effective utilization of intellectual capital.
  • Innovation culture: Encouraging a culture of innovation, fostering creativity, and  providing resources for research and development activities drive the generation of  new ideas and intellectual capital.

Social Capital: The Power of Networks and Relationships

The saying “It’s not what you know but who you know” holds true in the realm of business.  Social capital represents the relationships, networks, and collaborations that businesses  forge with stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, partners, and the community at  large. Building and nurturing social capital is essential for unlocking opportunities, accessing  resources, and gaining industry insights. Consider the following aspects:

  • Networking and relationship building: Actively participating in industry events,  conferences, and professional communities helps establish connections and expand  social capital.
  • Strategic partnerships: Collaborating with other businesses or organizations can  provide access to new markets, resources, and expertise, amplifying the reach and  impact of a business.
  • Reputation and brand management: Building a positive brand image, maintaining  transparency, and delivering value to customers and stakeholders enhance social  capital and foster trust.

Conclusion

In the pursuit of business prosperity, it is crucial to recognize that capital resources extend  beyond money. While financial capital lays the groundwork, it is the collective power of  human, physical, intellectual, and social capital that propels businesses forward. Embracing  a holistic approach to capital resource management fosters innovation, fuels growth, and  enhances competitiveness.

To thrive in today’s ever-evolving business landscape, organizations must appreciate and  invest in these diverse capital resources. By leveraging the full spectrum of resources at  their disposal, businesses can chart a path toward sustainable success and resilience in an  increasingly dynamic world. Remember, a capital resource encompasses more than  monetary value; it represents the multifaceted assets that enable businesses to thrive and  adapt to changing times.

Berkey Water Filter: What You Need to Know

0
berkey water filter, countertop in a kitchen
The Brita takes too much effort. And all that plastic! How about a non-electric Berkey Water Filter for your kitchen? Takes out the stuff you don’t want, leaves the good stuff in.

Berkey Phoenix Filter Elements. For those of you who have one, nothing more needs to be said. For those who have never heard of it, or have a keen interest in learning more, here is the information that you need to know. This water filtration system, which also is an eye-catching addition to any counter, will be one of the best investments that you could make for your family. Get ready to donate that exhausted refrigerator filter pitcher, and get available for the best hydration you have ever had.

The Cleanest Water You Will Ever Drink

Do you know what is really in your water? If you have had it tested, you may be a little surprised. If you can look beyond the parts per million of contaminants, including bacteria, viruses, pharmaceutical runoff, BPA residue, heavy metals, fluoride, and chlorine, stay tuned because there could be even more lurking in your local water supply. Contaminated water is not found in just urban water supplies either. Those who run on well-water know the familiar scent and taste that can be associated. Granted, there are many different types of filters, but not all of them are considered water purifiers.

Berkey on the go, filters water when you travel
Filters water when you are between cities or between camping spots.

Berkeys are not just a filter; they are a water purifier. Which means they can eliminate bacteria and viruses. The filters are incredible, and they can filter out the water you scoop from the local ditch and come out purified. Not all water filter systems are the same, but those who own a Berkey will tell you there is nothing like it, and all others pale in comparison.

A Size for Every Family

Do you find yourself refilling your pitcher filter after every other glass? Constant refilling is inconvenient, especially if someone neglects to take their turn before returning it to the refrigerator. The Berkey system allows you to enjoy glass after glass without having to refill the reservoir relentlessly. There are several different sizes so you can find the right one that will suit the size of your household. You want to know how much water you will need. If you live in an area where natural disasters are prevalent or have a large family, the Crown Berkey holds a whopping six gallons of water. The Big Berkey is the most popular seller and holds approximately 2.5 gallons.

Easy to Assemble with a Chic Look

No tools are required. The Berkey comes with only a few parts and very easy to follow instructions. You will get a rubber ring that goes around the bottom to protect your countertops. There are two stainless steel “buckets”- one that is on the top to hold the filters and the tap water you put in, and the bottom which the fresh Berkey water will flow into and hold. You can purchase a stainless steel spigot or a plastic one for most models that is super secure and does not leak. You will receive two filters, but the system can hold up to four. You can also purchase fluoride filters. If you only use two filters, it also comes with plugs to place in the other holes.

Then there is a top. It is that easy. To prep the filters, you let the water run through it (and supply a silicone connector for your sink) until it beads up with water. When it does, it is ready to use (but it is recommended you run a full tank of water through it to clear out any factory sediment or loose charcoal).

Pays for Itself

The Berkey system can cost $300. A typically extended pitcher filter will go for about 120 gallons max before it goes sour, and it doesn’t filter out nearly half of what a Berkey does. They run for about $15 each. Just one Berkey filter lasts for 3,000 gallons, and the system comes with two, which means you are getting 6000 gallons of purified water. Two replacement filters cost about $120. Respectively, you are paying $0.13 a gallon for pitcher water, and $0.02 a gallon for purer Berkey water. Plus, think of all the unnecessary waste you will be tossing into the landfills. The Berkey will pay for itself before you ever have to change the filters.

There are many reasons why the Berkey is becoming one of the most trusted and utilized names in-home water filtration systems for well-being. It looks beautiful in both modern and rustic homes, but it is also easy to assemble. You have a variety of systems to choose from that meet your family’s needs. You will have a water purifier that will stand the test of time, even if there is a natural emergency (it does not require any electricity or other power source besides gravity). It is an investment that will pay for itself in a short period, and you will have the best water that you will never have to taste or smell again.

Ready to Breath a Sigh of Relief? 10 Revolutionary Tips for Reducing Indoor Air Pollution in Your Home

0
indoor houseplants, thumbs up
Plants clean the air more than you can know.

Your home is more than just a place to relax, eat, and sleep—it’s where your life unfolds; you laugh, dream, and raise your children. But have you ever stopped to consider what might be lurking unseen in your precious abode, particularly in the air you and your loved ones breathe daily? Have you pondered over the relationship between your baby and air pollution? Before you dismiss the concern as outlandish, know this: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cites indoor air quality as one of the top five environmental health risks today. While outdoor air pollution has been a widely recognized problem, indoor air pollution can be up to five times worse. And this matter affects everyone, from your aging parents to your playful kids and, yes, most especially, your baby.

Even inside the apparent safety of your house, air pollution remains a silent threat. A concoction of chemicals, dust, smoke, mold, bacteria, and other allergens can be present in your indoor air. If left unchecked, these pollutants can lead to many health problems, ranging from allergies, asthma, and respiratory diseases, to more severe, long-term conditions like heart disease and cancer.

Fortunately, improving indoor air quality is more manageable than it might seem. You can employ a wealth of simple, cost-effective, and innovative strategies to reduce indoor air pollution. This article provides ten actionable tips beyond the conventional advice you’d typically encounter. These are not your standard “open a window” or “don’t smoke indoors” suggestions—these are thoroughly researched, innovative strategies designed to ensure that the air you breathe inside your home is as fresh and clean as nature intended.

Embrace the Green Revolution

Houseplants aren’t just pretty—they’re air purifiers, too! NASA’s Clean Air Study revealed that certain plants can remove toxic chemicals from the air. English Ivy, Spider Plant, and Boston Ferns are a few examples that can suck up toxins like formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene.

Be a Smart Shopper

Many cleaning products contain harmful chemicals that can negatively impact indoor air quality. Try switching to natural, non-toxic cleaners or making your own using ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon.

Bid Adieu to Artificial Fragrances

Artificial fragrances in air fresheners, candles, and personal care products can release a cocktail of chemicals into your air. Opt for fragrance-free products or use natural alternatives like essential oils.

Air Purifiers for Allergies and Beyond

An air purifier is a versatile tool in combating indoor air pollution. While known as an air purifier for allergies, it does much more than filter out pollen and pet dander. Quality air purifiers can remove microscopic pollutants, neutralize smoke, and even eliminate harmful bacteria and viruses. Some models have a real-time feature to measure your indoor air quality, so you’re always in the know.

Create a No-Shoe Zone

How much dirt and pollutants your shoes can bring indoors will surprise you. Implement a no-shoe policy to keep outdoor contaminants at bay.

Test Your Home for Radon

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that can seep into your home from the ground. Long-term exposure can lead to lung cancer. Testing kits are readily available and can help ensure your home is radon-free.

Control Humidity with a Dehumidifier

High humidity levels can encourage the growth of mold and dust mites, both notorious allergens. A dehumidifier can help maintain a healthy humidity level, discouraging these allergens from multiplying.

Regular Maintenance of HVAC System

A well-maintained HVAC system can significantly improve indoor air quality. Regular cleaning and changing of filters prevent dust, pollen, and other pollutants from being circulated inside your home.

Be Wary of Your Cookware

Non-stick cookware can release toxic fumes when overheated. Opt for safer alternatives like stainless steel, cast iron, or glass.

Practice Conscious Renovation

Paints, adhesives, and certain types of flooring can emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are harmful when inhaled. Choose low or no-VOC products when renovating.

By taking charge of the air quality inside your home, you are taking a proactive stand for your health and the well-being of your loved ones. Remember, combating indoor air pollution isn’t about executing massive, expensive overhauls—it’s about making daily mindful, consistent choices. And while these tips may seem like small steps, the payoff is monumental—a home that’s not just a living space but a thriving space. A home that safeguards your family’s health, not compromises it. A home where every breath you take is one of clean, wholesome air. This is the home you deserve, the home that everyone deserves. It’s time to breathe easy, knowing that your actions today are shaping a healthier, happier tomorrow.

How To Choose the Right Moissanite Ring

0
lab grown diamond, Vrai, artificial diamond, synthetic diamond
Looks like a diamond, feels like a diamond, but it’s not mined or made in a lab. A natural, simpler choice that sparkles like a diamond without the prohibitive cost

Wedding and engagement rings hold profound significance, symbolizing love, commitment, and partnership. Engagement rings mark the promise of a lifelong journey together, often adorned with a sparkling diamond or precious gem. Wedding rings exchanged during the marriage ceremony, represent the unbroken circle of love and unity. These timeless bands serve as enduring reminders of cherished moments, celebrating the bond between two individuals embarking on a shared life filled with devotion and shared dreams.

Secrets to Choosing Moissanite Rings

Selecting the best Moissanite rings involves a blend of knowledge, taste, and consideration. Moissanite, a stunning gemstone with remarkable brilliance and durability, has become a popular choice for engagement rings and other jewelry pieces. Here are the essential factors to consider when choosing the right moissanite ring.

  • Quality Assessment

Begin by evaluating the quality of the moissanite gem. Pay close attention to the 4 Cs: Carat, Cut, Color, and Clarity. Carat refers to the size of the gem; cut determines its sparkle and brilliance; color affects its hue; and clarity gauges its flaws. Opt for a balance that suits your preferences and budget.

  • Certification and Authentication

Ensure the moissanite gem comes with a certificate of authenticity. Reputable jewelers provide documentation that verifies the quality and origin of the stone. This ensures you’re receiving a genuine moissanite of the highest standard.

  • Ring Setting

The setting of the moissanite ring greatly influences its overall appearance. Choose a setting that complements the stone and aligns with your style. Popular options include solitaire, halo, three-stone, and vintage settings. Each setting type offers a unique aesthetic, so select one that resonates with you.

  • Metal Choice

Consider the metal for the ring band. Common choices are platinum, white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold. Each metal has its characteristics, such as color and durability. Pick a metal that harmonizes with your skin tone and personal style.

  • Budget Allocation

Determine your budget early in the process. Moissanite rings are generally more affordable than traditional diamond rings, but prices can vary based on size, quality, and design. Set a realistic budget and explore options within that range.

  • Comparison Shopping

Don’t settle for the first moissanite ring you encounter. Visit multiple jewelers, both online and in-store, to compare designs, prices, and customer reviews. This will provide a comprehensive understanding of what’s available and help you make an informed decision.

  • Ethical Considerations

Moissanite is considered a more ethical and environmentally friendly choice compared to mined diamonds. If ethical sourcing is important to you, moissanite is a great alternative.

  • Customization Options

Many jewelers offer customization services, allowing you to design a moissanite ring that perfectly reflects your vision. From selecting the stone and setting to incorporating intricate details, customization adds a personal touch to your ring.

  • Durability and Maintenance

Moissanite is a durable gemstone, but it’s wise to learn about proper maintenance. Research how to clean and care for moissanite to ensure its long-lasting brilliance. Unlike diamonds, moissanite is not as hard, so avoiding abrasive cleaners is essential.

  • Warranty and Return Policy

Inquire about the jeweler’s warranty and return policy. A reputable jeweler should offer a warranty against manufacturing defects and provide a clear return policy in case you’re not satisfied with your purchase.

  • Sizing and Comfort

Proper sizing is crucial for comfort and wearability. Visit a jeweler to get accurate measurements or use an online sizing guide provided by reputable retailers. Comfort should never be compromised for aesthetics.

  • Long-Term Appeal

Consider the timeless aspect of the design. Trends come and go, but a classic, timeless design will ensure your moissanite ring remains stylish and relevant for years to come.

  • Consultation with Experts

If you are uncertain about any aspect of choosing a moissanite ring, seek advice from experts in the field. Professional jewelers can provide insights and recommendations based on your preferences and requirements.

Moissanite rings encapsulate emotions and memories, becoming cherished heirlooms passed down through generations. They embody enduring love stories and shared destinies. Therefore, choose wisely.

Final Thoughts

Selecting the perfect moissanite ring involves a combination of understanding the gemstone’s qualities, your personal preferences, and the expertise of reputable jewelers. By carefully considering factors such as quality, setting, budget, and customization options, you can confidently choose a moissanite ring that reflects your style and stands as a symbol of your special moments.

5. Wall-mounted Monkey Bars

Wall-mounted monkey bars are designed to be installed indoors or outdoors on a wall or other vertical surface. They can provide a space-saving alternative to traditional monkey bars and are often used for indoor gymnasiums or home fitness rooms.

Benefits of Setting Up Monkey Bars

Monkey bars provide a wide range of physical and mental benefits for children. Here are some of the key advantages:

1. Improves Upper Body Strength

Monkey bars require children to use their arms, shoulders, and upper back muscles to support their weight as they swing from bar to bar. This can lead to increased upper body strength and endurance.

2. Enhances Coordination and Balance

To move across the monkey bars, children must coordinate their hand and foot movements and maintain their balance. This can help improve their coordination, spatial awareness, and overall sense of balance.

3. Builds Confidence and Resilience

Mastering the monkey bars can be a challenging task, but with practice, children can develop a sense of accomplishment and confidence in their abilities. This can also help them develop resilience and a willingness to take on new challenges.

4. Provides Cardiovascular Exercise

Swinging from bar to bar on the monkey bars can provide a fun and engaging cardiovascular workout, helping to strengthen the heart and lungs.

5. Promotes Social Interaction

Monkey bars are often a popular gathering spot for children at the playground, providing opportunities for social interaction, cooperative play, and friendly competition.

Tips For Setting Up Monkey Bars

Here are some tips for setting up monkey bars in your backyard:

1. Choose the Right Location

Select a flat, level area in your backyard that is free from obstacles and hazards, such as rocks, tree roots, and low-hanging branches.

2. Consider the Height

Monkey bars should be at a height that is appropriate for your child’s age and height. For younger children, the bars should be lowered to the ground to reduce the risk of injury from falls.

3. Select the Right Materials

Monkey bars can be made from a variety of materials, such as metal, wood, or plastic. Choose a material that is sturdy and durable enough to withstand the weight of your child and the elements.

4. Install Safely

Make sure the monkey bars are installed securely and properly anchored into the ground to prevent tipping or wobbling. Consider adding a safety surface underneath, such as rubber mulch or sand, to cushion falls.

5. Supervise Your Child

Always supervise your child while they are using the monkey bars, and instruct them on safe use and proper technique. Teach them to always use two hands on each bar and to land on their feet if they fall.

6. Add Fun Accessories

Consider adding accessories, such as climbing ropes or rings, to make the monkey bars more challenging and fun for your child.

Remember to regularly inspect the monkey bars for signs of wear and tear, and make any necessary repairs or replacements to ensure they remain safe and enjoyable for your child.

Conclusion

A fantastic approach for kids to develop their physical fitness, coordination, and social skills is by using monkey bars in a backyard playset or playground. When installing monkey bars in your backyard, it’s crucial to pick the ideal spot, pick the perfect height and materials, install them securely, and watch your child carefully as they use them. Monkey bars can give kids of all ages hours of entertainment and exercise with the right upkeep, helping to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.

Bacteria art in a petri dish

Bacteria art in a petri dish

Nature offers us endless ways to play and be inspired. Especially when it comes to the little things that we can hardly see with our eyes. There is bacterial art that can be cultured into fabric and Stella McCartney fashion to sculptures made from bees that surround ceramic objects with real life honeycomb. Or how about the art submerged under the sea to be built on by coral reefs building their homes?

A Russian artist Daria Fedorova helps us overcome our fear of the invisible by creating art from bacteria on petri dishes. Since Covid we all have had an a rational and irrational fear of germs but Daria helps us see the decomposition and bacteria artfully in color and form.

Dasha grows bacteria and other organisms on petri dishes and agar before applying tiny fluffy balls with sugar and sprinkles into the mix. The additions of texture and color spark the imagination and make bacteria seem playful rather than fear-inducing. Unlike viruses, you can see bacterial growth with your eyes. The shapes are fuzzy and slimy, with coils and strings and shapes from a Doctor Seuss story.

The creations are built over about three and four weeks from what’s around us: “We are all swimming in the ocean of tiny spores and organisms, breathing them in, and carrying them on the top of our skin and inside the body. I was interested in this parallel between the physical world we can see and touch and also another physical world, which also presents, but is kind of metaphysical, invisible, somewhere between the air layers, vibrations, energies, nature,” she says on her art website.

The way of my seeding is extremely different from the microbiological practices, so I have no incubators, and sterility, it happens as naturally as you cooking your meal. That is why all of these compositions looks so different and fulfilled, I’m not trying to get rid of some – i just appreciate their variable chaos. But also have kinda unwanted species, which covers all the area in just several hours, so I can’t see what is underneath, for example mucor, looks like a huge cotton candy.”

Explore Plesen’s works on Instagram and be inspired.

Plesen’s work falls into decades of art in petri dishes which we’ve covered over the years. Brad Pitt’s rumored girlfriend Neri Oxman’s idea of living clothes was born out of the lab at Tel Aviv University. Sarine Zaken was the world’s first designer to incorporate living bacteria into clothing and jewelry that people can actually wear. The  third year student at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, the young Israeli fantasized about incorporating something alive into her final project.

Other “living” ideas for petri dishes you can save from the Biology lab recycling bin:

  • mini terrariums can be grown in them. Terrariums are encased plant and sometimes small animal systems that need no external nutrients or water for growth
  • Germinate seeds inside a petri dish on a damp paper towel. Replant the seeds that grow.
  • Observe objects and living organisms using a magnifying glass, containing them in a petri dish
  • Use petri dishes as mini canvases for painting
  • Use them as see-through molds for creative treats.

Natural hair health for ecologists

Healthy hair needs protein and healthy habits

Weather changes, relocation, swimming in chlorinated pools –– aging –– all these things can lead to deteriorating hair health. If you want the feeling that your hair feels like it did at 18, well that may never happen again but there are some dietary approaches for approaching hair health that will also better help your skin and nails.

There is plenty of research on the effects of peptides in one’s diet on hair and skin health. Research started in the 80s by and for men who wanted to counteract balding. While there is still no silver bullet for stopping an inherited bald gene from robbing you of your hair, there are some dietary supplements you can take that are known to increase a bit of volume and stop hair breakage.

Biotin is a common protein hair supplement women in salons talk about for improving the strength of your hair. Doctors like mine have suggested another regime that does not include biotin but one of three vitamins: one day a multi-vitamin, day 2 an iron supplement, day 3, a folic acid. This regime means I get the costs of the expensive supplements covered by my healthcare insurance.

Biohacking and taking vitamins and proteins has become a part of our life and there is no golden bullet solution if you don’t take care of the basics first: eating wholesome, healthy and organic food, having satisfying relationships to people and your work, and getting enough sleep and time in nature.

So what exactly are peptides anyway?

Peptides are chains of amino acids found in proteins like meat, milk, cheese, eggs and fish and they are the building blocks of what we call proteins which are already found as part of the skins, bones and muscles in your body. “Get your proteins” is a worry for moms and grandmothers because they know that they are essential for keeping you strong and full or energy unlike carbs which are basically sugars that wear off quickly.

Peptides as you can imagine help in promoting hair growth. The first step is that they move blood from your body around to the follicles of your hair giving them nutrients and oxygen to grow hair healthily. Peptides can also prompt the body to produce more collagen and elastin, which help keep the hair’s structure strong.

Can stress affect the peptides that cause graying hair?

Urban legends say stress is the reason why your hair turns gray. In the first evidence of “natural re-pigmentation,” scientists at Columbia University have built a computer model of how hair graying happens with age but alsp in response to stressful events. They have identified 323 proteins that tell us whether a hair was gray, white, or colored at any point in its history and from this information they snipped colored and gray hairs from 14 participants who listed and rated the stressfulness of their life over the past year.

So does stress cause you to gray faster? The researchers say yes. And that they believe they have found the first step to re-coloring gray hair: “The new method for measuring small changes in hair coloring opens up the possibility of using hair pigmentation patterns like tree rings. This could track the influence of past life events on human biology. In the future, monitoring hair pigmentation patterns could provide a way to trace the effectiveness of treatments aimed at reducing stress or slowing the aging process,” they write.

Mindfulness has a slew of positive benefits such as helping to relieve stress, lowering the risk of disease, improving sleep quality, and increasing positive emotions. Yet, it can be difficult to place our awareness on the present moment when we’re bombarded with distractions in our modern age.

That’s why we’re here to help by offering 5 tips to be more mindful in daily life. Practicing these tips will make being present throughout the day as simple as scheduling a move with Black Tie Moving, so let’s get right into it.

Practice Gratitude

Practicing gratitude helps to reduce negative feelings, improves sleep quality, and it’s one of the simplest ways to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life. When you’re expressing gratitude, your attention and focus are on the positive feeling you have when you’re being thankful for something you have in your life.

Focus On Your Breath

Breathwork is an effective method to be more mindful throughout the day. When you focus on your breath, you’re brought into the present moment. Instead of being trapped in your mind with thoughts or distracted by social media, you’re allowing yourself space to observe and embrace the present moment when your awareness is on your breath.

Notice Your Sensations

Stop and smell the flowers! Placing your attention on the sensations your body is picking up is an effective way to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is all about stopping and remaining deeply aware of the moment in front of you, which is what makes focusing on your sense perceptions such a powerful way to step into the present. Throughout the day, take time to notice what your eyes are seeing, your nose is smelling, and your ears are hearing. It’s one of the easiest entryways into mindfulness.

Scan Your Body

Body scanning is a great method to become more mindful. Body scanning is when you either sit down or lay on your back and place all your attention on different parts of your body. Typically, you start with simply noticing your forehead and work your way all the way to the soles of your feet. You could say things during your body scan like, “Breathing in, I’m aware of my forehead. Breathing out, I smile to my forehead.” This practice gets you in touch with the present, and it’s a simple way to be more mindful of your body throughout the day – even when the practice is over.

Observe Your Thoughts

Stressful events like the day-to-day grind or moving houses can be stressful. Yoga can help.

It’s estimated that people have around 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day. Of course, we can’t notice all of the thoughts we have, but that doesn’t mean we can’t notice some of them. Usually, we only notice thoughts that are unpleasant or evoke strong emotions. When you’re working to become more mindful, it’s crucial that you learn to observe your thoughts in an objective and non-judgmental way – simply noticing a thought that comes up and releasing it. You can think of your thoughts like clouds passing through the sky.

The Benefits of a Home Warranty

Pete Davis, tiny home
Are you building a tiny home? Even though your outlay costs may be low and your impact to the environment minimal, you still need to consider protecting your asset.

Home warranties can be an excellent investment for both buyers and sellers of real estate properties. A warranty can protect systems and appliances against costly repair expenses while providing access to reliable contractors.

Before purchasing a plan, however, it is crucial that you carefully evaluate all available options and compare consumer reviews, Better Business Bureau ratings, pricing structures and plans available to you.

Peace of Mind

treehouse home in the woods
One way to cover the mortgage is to build a sustainable home that screams AirBNB. Rent on peak holidays and crash at your parents.

Home warranties provide new homeowners with peace of mind. They provide assurance that any repairs to appliances or systems in their new homes, particularly older systems nearing the end of their lifespans, will be affordable.

Buyers should read their contracts carefully and understand any limitations or exclusions before signing them. Also be wary of companies with an established history of complaints; research online or with the Better Business Bureau could prove invaluable in helping buyers identify untrustworthy home warranty providers.

Real estate agents typically have connections to home warranty providers that can assist buyers. Seek advice from these agents, then conduct some online research in order to locate the ideal plan – compare pricing and coverage limits carefully when considering plans with automatic renewal or cancellation fees.

Convenience

This unique home is being built with sustainable materials in Indonesia.

Home warranty providers provide homeowners with easy claims processes and access to professional service technicians, alleviating unexpected repairs while helping them plan ahead for ongoing costs.

Before purchasing a home warranty policy, always read carefully over the contract and terms and conditions. Determine what’s covered or excluded; how quickly reimbursement occurs; whether there are dollar limits per repair or item covered and more.

First-time home buyers with limited savings and no prior knowledge of their home’s appliances and systems often benefit from purchasing a home warranty, which may also serve as an attractive selling point when selling. A transferable warranty can speed up the selling process while attracing buyers concerned about unexpected repairs post closing – something real estate markets provide both sellers and buyers, who strive to get the best deal they can.

Coverage Options

Little Island, Manhattan
Does your home warrantee coverage damage caused by global warming? Make sure you ask.

Home warranty service providers typically offer various plan options with different levels of coverage, from systems-only plans and appliance-only policies, to combination policies which cover both. Many providers also provide add-ons which can expand a policy’s coverage; such as adding swimming pools, septic tanks, boilers, and well pumps at additional costs. But sometimes things are not covered. Like, does home warranty cover microwave usage?

Refrigerators, ovens and built-in microwaves may not be essential parts of home systems such as air conditioning or plumbing; however, when they malfunction they can be more costly to repair or replace than these home systems.

Home warranties offer new homeowners peace of mind by relieving them from unexpected repairs to appliances and systems, alleviating financial strain. But before making this purchase, it is crucial that they understand exactly what is covered as well as any additional fees they could be responsible for when filing claims. Please read a sample contract closely for any potential costs you might be subject to when filing claims.

Cost

Home warranties can be an expensive investment. Homeowners typically must pay both an annual premium and service fees when filing claims; those charges can quickly add up if either process takes time to resolve or is denied by the provider.

Home warranty companies typically provide sample contracts that homeowners can review prior to committing. While these samples don’t fully represent what’s involved in signing an actual contract, they do give a good idea of what can be expected.

Check if the coverage limits are aggregate, meaning they cover a set number of repairs or replacements regardless of which item breaks, or per-item, meaning there’s an overall limit and once reached you must pay for repair yourself – per item models make more sense when dealing with more costly items like refrigerators and dishwashers. Furthermore, see if your warranty company allows you to select your own contractor/technician for repairs or maintenance work.

Does Medicare Cover Dental, Vision, and Hearing Care?

You are listening to the planet but are you taking care of your own body? Environmentalists need to know how the healthcare system works too

As we get older, our healthcare needs often increase. It may require specialized attention. Taking care of our health, vision, and hearing becomes essential for well being. However, there is often confusion among adults about whether Medicare provides coverage for these services. In this discussion, we will delve into what Medicare covers regarding vision care and hearing care.

Let’s start by understanding what is Medicare

Medicare is a health insurance program that plays a crucial role in providing coverage for different groups of individuals. Primarily designed for people aged 65 and older, Medicare ensures that seniors receive healthcare support during their years. Medicare also extends its assistance to individuals with disabilities or chronic conditions to ensure they have access to the care and support they require. Medicare is divided into four parts; Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D.

Part A covers healthcare services such as hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care. This comprehensive coverage ensures that beneficiaries can access attention and assistance when facing various health challenges. It promotes health outcomes and comfort during the recovery process.

On the hand, Part B covers medical services like doctor visits and outpatient care services like screenings and vaccinations, along with access to necessary medical equipment. Ensuring that beneficiaries have access to healthcare resources is a key aspect of this comprehensive coverage. It aims to maintain their well-being and effectively manage their health conditions.

Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage, offers an alternative to Original Medicare. Provides benefits like dental, vision, and hearing care. For prescription drug coverage Part D plays a role. It allows beneficiaries to access medications for managing chronic health conditions. This component ensures access to a range of prescription drugs contributing to millions Nationwide’s overall health and quality of life.

Does Original Medicare Cover Dental, Vision, and Hearing Care?

Regarding dental, vision, and hearing care services Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) typically does not cover them except for exceptions. Here are some examples:

Dental Care: Routine dental services such as exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures, or dental plates are not covered by Original Medicare. However, there may be instances where Medicare Part A covers services if they are deemed medically necessary during an inpatient hospital stay. For example, if a dental procedure is required before undergoing a covered surgery.

Vision Care: Original Medicare does not include coverage for eye exams related to eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, if you have diabetes or are at risk for glaucoma Medicare Part B may cover an eye exam because these conditions require regular monitoring. Moreover, specific eye exams and treatments for eye diseases may also be covered by Medicare.

Regarding Hearing Care: Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids or routine hearing exams. Nevertheless, coverage may be available under Medicare Part B if you need hearing and balance exams due to a condition.

Nevertheless, there are exceptions to these rules. For instance, Original Medicare might cover services that are deemed necessary, like oral surgery or dental services required before a kidney transplant. Similarly, if deemed necessary, certain vision and hearing services may be covered by Original Medicare.

Now let’s consider whether dental, vision, and hearing care is covered by Medicare Advantage plans

Private insurance companies offer Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans as an alternative to Original Medicare. These plans must cover the services as Original Medicare. It can also provide additional benefits such as dental, vision, and hearing care. According to a poll conducted by KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation), 90% of the public considers expanding Medicare to include dental, hearing, and vision as a “top” or “important” priority for Congress.

Many Medicare Advantage plans include dental, vision, and hearing benefits as part of their coverage. However, the level of coverage and the value of these benefits can differ significantly from one plan to another.

How Can Medicare Ensure Dental, Vision, and Hearing Care for Beneficiaries?

The Commonwealth Fund has proposed a Medicare benefit that could encompass dental, vision, and hearing care at a cost of $1.9 billion. Premiums of $25 would cover this cost. Under this proposal, routine dental procedures like cleanings and fillings such as vision and hearing examinations and hearing aids would be covered. Another suggestion is to incorporate dental, vision, and hearing coverage into Medicare Part B, which covers outpatient care. This approach would enable beneficiaries to purchase these services at a cost compared to insurance.

Desert morning looking out the tent
You might spend your mornings looking out to the desert as a global nomad, but don’t forget healthcare when you are practicing mindfulness.

In conclusion

Original Medicare generally does not cover dental, vision, and hearing services, except for some exceptions. While Medicare Advantage plans might provide benefits such as care or vision and hearing assistance, it’s important to note that the extent of such coverage can significantly vary based on specific plans available. There have been suggestions to broaden the scope of Medicare to encompass dental, vision, and hearing services. However, it is still being determined when or if these suggestions will be implemented. If you have any inquiries regarding your Medicare coverage, it is crucial to consult with your healthcare provider or a licensed insurance agent.

Industrial settings are bustling hubs of activity where machinery is the backbone of operations. Whether it’s manufacturing, construction, or any other industrial sector, the proper functioning of machinery is vital for maximizing productivity and output. However, the efficiency and success of these operations hinge on ensuring that machinery is not only functioning optimally but also operated in a safe and secure manner.

In your day-to-day operations, it is important that you secure control of your machinery and processes as it not only safeguards the well-being of personnel but also prevents costly disruptions. This article delves into the key aspects of ensuring the safety and efficiency of your machinery in industrial settings, providing valuable insights and practical strategies to create a safe and productive environment.

1. Identifying the Risks

The first step in ensuring the safety of your machinery is understanding the potential risks associated with industrial processes. From mechanical malfunctions to human error and even cybersecurity threats, identifying and assessing these risks is essential. You must conduct a thorough risk analysis with your team to prioritize safety measures and allocate resources accordingly.

Renewable energy machine operations are just as prone to risks as machinery from other industries

2. Trapped-Key Interlocking System

A Trapped-Key Interlocking System is a mechanical safety solution that ensures machinery and equipment can only be operated in a specific sequence, preventing hazardous situations and promoting a safe working environment. This system uses physical keys that are uniquely designed to fit into corresponding locks, which control the activation or deactivation of specific machinery. With this system, you can prevent accidental start-ups or shutdowns, as the machinery can only be operated in the correct sequence with the appropriate keys.

3. Implementing Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) Procedures

The Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures are crucial for preventing accidents during maintenance or repair activities. These procedures involve isolating machinery from its energy sources and securing it with a lock and tag. Proper training and communication are key to ensuring that all personnel follow LOTO protocols diligently.

4. Access Control and Authorization

Controlling access to machinery is critical for preventing unauthorized usage and safeguarding personnel. There should be access control systems implemented in your workplace that use biometric authentication, smart cards, or digital credentials to limit access to qualified personnel only. Restricting access helps minimize the risk of accidents caused by untrained or inexperienced individuals.

5. Physical Barriers and Guarding

Physical barriers and guards provide a tangible layer of protection for both machinery and personnel. To prevent accidental contact with moving parts and hazardous areas, you must install machine guards, safety fences, and interlocking systems. Additionally, these safety features should be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure their effectiveness.

6. Real-time Monitoring and Sensor Technologies

Incorporate advanced sensor technologies to enable real-time monitoring of machinery performance and safety parameters. Sensors can detect anomalies, overheating, vibration irregularities, and other potential issues. Implement predictive maintenance strategies based on sensor data to proactively address problems before they escalate.

7. Cybersecurity for Industrial Control Systems (ICS)

In the era of Industry 4.0, where automation and digital connectivity have revolutionized industrial processes, the reliance on Industrial Control Systems (ICS) has become more prevalent than ever. While this technological advancement offers numerous benefits, it also opens the door to cybersecurity vulnerabilities. With interconnected systems, industrial machinery faces an increasing risk of cyber threats that can have severe consequences, from operational disruptions to compromising the safety of personnel.

8. Incident Response Plan

Develop and implement an incident response plan to address cyber incidents effectively. The plan should outline clear procedures for detecting, containing, mitigating, and recovering from cyber-attacks. Regularly test and refine the plan to ensure its effectiveness during real-world situations.

9. Training and Safety Culture

A strong safety culture starts with well-trained and safety-conscious personnel. Provide comprehensive training for all employees operating or working around machinery. Encourage a culture where safety is prioritized, and employees are empowered to identify and report potential hazards.

Tips to sustainable travel using the Internet

0
Van life under the stars
#Vanlife is a great way to live and work remotely for a year or two

Traveling around the world on a shoestring budget means you can travel longer and work less to save for your trip. While it’s hard to ever become the No Impact Man there are ways to live on a shoestring, eat simply, buy like a spendthrift and enjoy your time meeting new people instead of shopping at Home Depot to repair the house that holds you while you work.

The first thing you need to know, and I am sure you have heard about it, is that booking sites for rental cars, airfare and hotels use tracking software to know from which country you’ve entered the site and they can count how many times you check prices on a page. Notice the prices going up higher every time you check?

It’s not likely such a demand for what you want but the company knows you are checking and automatically puts the price up every time. There are a handful of reliable VPN companies you can use to block your location and in some cases toggling between countries can get you better rates. I use VPN Express when I need a temporary VPN, and Surfshark is just fine too – just take a top 5 VPN download and you are good to go. I’d pay with PayPal because it’s easier to get your money refunded if the software doesn’t work the way you intended. And it’s safer than giving your credit card.

Cloaking your location can also work for getting good rates on cars but after 5 years of having to rent cars every year, sometimes for a couple of months at a time, I’d given up on all the comparison sites and I’d just stick with Autoslash. I’ve had personal help from guys like Chris over there. While you don’t have options to find electric or hybrid cars these can come up in your search results and you can filter the best choices out later according to your budget and location.

How to find places to stay: every country in the world has sustainable, local cost options. But you need to get into the mindset of the people there first to understand how to travel with less impact and how to travel sustainably. In countries like Turkey you don’t have to Google for LEED hotels. You can stay at small, family-built pensions that offer home-cooked meals. Turkey is also one of those countries where you don’t need a car to travel far and well. Small buses and even larger ones traverse the country in a web –  making it easy for you to get on and get off with ease and your budget intact.

Countries like Canada, less so. Lodging is relatively expensive, but with the enormous scale of provincial and national parks you can camp for about $40 USD a night during peak summer months. Provincial parks will let you stay in wild camping zones for an even lower rate and if you have a map of the Crown Land you can probably figure out ways to camp for free out in nature.

So when sustainable travel budgeting choices you make on the internet are important. But don’t make too many choices. Book a few nights and then figure out from the locals how to do more with less. Each country has its tips and tricks and if you want to act like a local go out and meet some.

Nullker: A Sustainable Global Community where “ECO” stands for Ecology as much as Economy

0

nullker banner

Nullker: Who We Are and Why Us?

We won’t brag. We did NOT invent a revolutionary way to save the planet – we simply discovered it! It was hidden in plain sight, in everything that surrounds us, in nature per se.

Nature has been managing itself for millennia, making everything work and stay balanced. Human activity has disturbed this balance. Yet, knowing nature’s ways, we can easily restore equilibrium by synchronizing with it.

In the natural world, everything exists in the form of networks and closed cycles, where all the elements engage in multiple beneficial connections. Think of ecosystems. Everything is at its best. And nothing is ever wasted – it just gets redistributed, reformatted, and reused. The same should be done with the resources people consume and the effort we put in to preserve those resources.

Translated into the language of economy, the revolutionary way lies through uniting the already existing environmental effort and channeling it in a manner that would enrich all the parties involved: business, communities, and nature.

On “Natural” Economy

Nullker community

We believe that the economy should become more… natural (pun unintended)! People should stop fighting against consumption, for it is now an integral part of the modern economic and social reality. What we can and should do instead is change the format of consumption to make it less wasteful and more inclusively beneficial. If you take from the environment – give back in any form convenient. It is already a win-win situation. However, Nullker knows best!..

Our Win-Win-Win Strategy.

Many of you have heard of the non-zero-sum game – a theory where one participant’s gain does not necessarily mean the other one’s loss. This theory is applicable to economy, as well as ecology. When we consume, nature should not necessarily lose. When we invest into the environmental effort, the economy should not automatically lose. It’s as simple as that. It is the “eco Nash equilibrium” of sorts, where “eco” stands for both ecology and economy.

Nullker went even further and took the standard win-win scenario to a whole new level. The resulting “win-win-win” approach presupposes that people take from nature, give back, and still receive more – from other people and businesses who also value nature and with whom they can create more joint initiatives mediated by Nullker. We bring sporadic eco effort together in a self-perpetuating cooperation on a single platform, making economic and cultural growth easier and more integrated.

In essence, the key to saving the planet is in working together to unify and multiply the efforts. And this key is held by every single member of the growing Nullker community. The more of us – the bigger the impact.

Same Money – Different Outcome

Nullker’s philosophy is the money spent for connecting people and businesses, for popularizing green ideas and brands, for growing the community of people who care – about each other, about the economy, and about the planet.

For us, donation is not a matter of “how much” but more a matter of “how”.

Same money can make a different impact. Here is an example:

#1 A direct donation to an account of an animal shelter is what it is – a good act with a proportional, converted value. The donor’s money converts into a certain amount of food, vaccines, rehab, etc.

#2 A donation via the Nullker platform splits and restructures charity to convert it into a direct monetary input PLUS an investment into bonding with the like minded people and brands, immediately returning to the donator in the form of new contacts, discount points (NULLs), and information.

In the first case, animals get help and donors get moral satisfaction. That’s good, but could be better.

In the second scenario, animals get help, donors get moral satisfaction and NULLs that they can further use to their benefit, for example, by choosing among our partner brands to discover more eco products and services, more stories of people who care. In response, the partner brands are expected to invest more in the ecological initiatives. The bigger the donor base – the bigger the brands, their quantity, and their interest.

All in all, money is the same, but the impact is of tremendously different proportions and reach.

Would you like to join the green new world in the making? Join now https://nullker.com/ Let’s unite our natural and economic resources for a greater and more balanced future!

Moroccan Fish Stew, Perfect for the Heat of Summer

3
image-moroccan-fish-stew
This light, pleasantly spiced Moroccan fish stew is  perfect for a summer lunch or dinner.

We like a hot meal in the summer, but it has to be light, and it shouldn’t require a lot of time in the kitchen. This herbed and spiced fish stew needs only a few minutes of preparation, then half an hour to cook. Use organic vegetables if available. Any firm, white fish fillet works well for this recipe. Just make sure it’s  safe fish, first. Your best bet is to get a local fresh fish and ask the vendor to fillet it for you. And the stew makes a delicious sauce, so serve plenty of good bread, like these pitas, alongside.

Moroccan Fish Stew Recipe

Morocco fish stew, plated with salad and couscous
Morocco fish stew, plated with salad and dry couscous. We love it with extra sauce.

Serves 4 as a main dish, 8 as a hot first course.

Ingredients:

1  1/2  kg. firm white fish. Possible to use salmon.

1 package of cilantro, or parsley if preferred

2 onions, halved if only medium-sized, quartered if large

4 large cloves of garlic, peeled and whole. Put in more if you love garlic.

1 large tomato, or 2 medium tomatoes, thickly sliced

1 red or green bell pepper, thickly sliced

4 medium potatoes, thickly sliced

4 carrots, quartered vertically

1/4 tsp. turmeric powder and 1/4 tsp. powdered cumin

1 Tblsp. sweet or hot paprika, according to your taste

salt and pepper

1/3 cup olive oil

Method:

A Moroccan fish dish, Essaouira, Morocco
A Moroccan fish dish ordered at a restaurant in Essaouira, Morocco

Use a wide, shallow pot, if possible. This is important because the pot liquid is less likely to dry out. Or you can try baking your dish as the Moroccans sometimes do, featured in the image above.

If you’re using frozen fish, thaw it out and put it to soak in cold water to cover; squeeze half a lemon into the water.  Let the fish soak for 10 minutes, then rinse it. Fresh fish doesn’t need the lemon water treatment.

Slice the fish into pieces about three fingers wide. Put the slices aside.

Place the cilantro or parsley on the bottom of the pot. Place the vegetables on top of the greens and set the pieces of fish on top of the vegetables.

Sprinkle vegetables and fish with the dry spices.

Pour the olive oil over the whole thing. Add no water, nor any other liquid. The ingredients will release their juices and form a thin, but rich sauce.

Cover the pot and set it over a medium flame. Check it after 20 minutes, making sure that it’s not drying out. When the vegetables are cooked through and the liquid has cooked down to a thin sauce, it’s ready: it should take about 30 minutes total.

Serve it hot.

Enjoy!
