EcoGir Flaunts Its Recycled Polyester Suits During New York Fashion Week

ecogir-recycled-polyester-newyorkFashion label EcoGir says even polyester can be stylish.

The oh-so-stylish and yet oh-so-eco-friendly Israeli design label, EcoGir brought sustainable fashion to New York Fashion Week this year by holding two runway shows in a prominent midtown Manhattan location. Both men’s and women’s fashions were flaunted with a total of 12 suits shown.  The two showcases took place on September 16th at RS POP Shop, a space currently used for performance art and installation exhibitions, observed by approximately 30 VIP guests and countless onlookers on the streets of New York.

recycled-pet-bottle-clothingMade from recycled plastic PET bottles, EcoGir’s sustainable suits make eco-friendly, machine-washable and tumble-dryable fashion look worthy of being shown during New York Fashion Week.

Tim Danser, VP of Marketing for Bagir International, said that “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is special to New York and important to the fashion industry. EcoGir is proud to remind the world that being stylish and eco-friendly is possible. At EcoGir we believe being sustainable is a daily lifestyle. Every day is Earth Day for EcoGir.”

Not only were the shows viewed by fashion VIPs such as designer Matthew Ossenfort of Macy’s and assistant editor of MR magazine Jillian Sprague, but the runways were viewable to the public via large flat screen monitors.

The models, who were dressed in traditional colors (black, tan, and gray) as well as tuxedos, were available for Q&A sessions after each show. Attendees were permitted to feel the garments, as part of EcoGir’s mission to prove that sustainable fabrics have come a long way.

Plant trees in cities, for your heart

It seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes you need to give evidence to city councillors: A new multi-institutional study led by UC Davis Health suggests that not all green space is created equal. Living in urban neighborhoods with more visible trees is associated with a 4% lower incidence of cardiovascular disease, while areas dominated by grass or low shrubs may be linked to higher cardiovascular risk.
