Join a design contest and network with Jordan’s LEED-minded professionals.
Sometimes a simple link with like-minded souls can jump-start connection to fascinating places. As an American architect with a strong environmental bent, recently relocated from Dublin to Amman, it’s taking some time to find my professional sea-legs in Jordan. Idle Google-ing, fueled by cups of Arabic coffee, brought me to the doorstep of a place that feels like home: the Jordan Green Building Council – the JGBC. A tale as cheesy as labneh, but it’s true.
The JGBC is a young and energetic organization founded in May 2009 as the local affiliate of the World Green Building Council. An eclectic collective of professionals, academics and businessmen on a mission to make green building a widespread reality in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, JGBC relentlessly champions sustainability across a wide portfolio of local projects and events.
Now they’ve just thrown down a challenge to all designers with a penchant for green: sharpen your pencil! tap your inner muse! and design a brilliant cover page for their soon-to-be-released International Publication for the Localization of LEED Rating System.
Contest Winners will be awarded one year free membership in Jordan GBC (estimated value 100 JD) with benefits that include access to educational training and workshops and, of particular value to aliens like me, excellent networking opportunities with Jordan’s emergent sustainability community.
