Luna Park, Greenpeace and Junktion Studio Go Green On Sukkot

tel aviv luna park green festivalAfter a green Rosh Hashanah and a low carbon emission Yom Kippur, the next on the Jewish holiday marathon is Sukkot.  Which can also be celebrated in an environmentally conscious way.

We’ve already written about the annual Green Sukkah conference being held again this year at Kibbutz Ein Shemer, but if an all day conference isn’t your idea of fun then keep on reading.  There are plenty of other green Sukkot events out there.

Live Solar Powered Music Sponsored by Greenpeace: Greenpeace will be participating in an international protest called “The Global March for Peace and Non-Violence” which will be held in many cities around the world between October 1st and October 12th.  Greenpeace Israel’s protest will be held today, October 1st, in the plaza in front of the Tel Aviv Cinematheque.

Live solar powered music will be part of the protest, as well as storytelling and activities for kids.  October 1st at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque (2 Shprintsek Street, Tel Aviv) from 2pm to 6pm. Check out the facebook event.junktion studio tel aviv

The studio will be wide open to the public.  Junktion Studio, 41 Hagara Street at the corner of Rosh Pina Street, 3rd Floor, Tel Aviv on Friday, October 2nd between 10am and 2pm.

The Planet Is In Our Hands Festival Hosted by the Tel Aviv Luna Park: This year Tel Aviv’s amusement park will be hosting a family-oriented eco festival during Sukkot and declaring its commitment to the environment throughout the entire year.

The festivities will include interactive upcycling and recycling workshops for kids, where they can make kites out of recycled paper, mobiles out of natural materials, and personalized comic books.  Recycled works of art will also be on display, such as the Dome of Objects (seen in the photo above) made out of used objects that were collected in flea markets and from “Alte Zachen” carts in Tel Aviv.

Watch the clip below to see some of the festival’s sights.  The Planet Is In Our Hands at the Tel Aviv Luna Park, October 4-10 between 11am and 6pm (except for Friday the 8th when festivities will end at 5pm).  Check out the Luna Park website for more information.

What are AWG air-water generators, and why they aren’t a golden-bullet solution (yet)

Atmospheric water generators (AWGs) sound like magic: machines that can pull drinking water out of air. The idea is mentioned in the Bible, where the elders would pray for water collected as dew on plants and the catch on turning this into a machine is in the physics. To turn invisible vapor into liquid, you must remove heat, especially the latent heat of condensation.

The Saudi Startup Turning Desalination’s Toxic Waste Into Its Own Disinfectant

For millennia, the Middle East's water crisis seemed an immutable fact of geography — a region defined as much by what it lacked as by what lay beneath its sands.
