The design competition for Yad Lebanim, which means Fallen Sons Commemoration, called for a <a href="http://www.greenprophet.com/tag/mixed-use-development/">mixed-use development</a> complete with activity rooms, educational facilities, a library and an amphitheater.</p>
<p>Responding to the <a href="http://www.greenprophet.com/tag/urban-park/">dearth of urban parks</a> in the region, the trio topped their proposed design with a <a href="http://www.greenprophet.com/tag/green-roof/">verdant green roof</a>.<span id="more-87023"></span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.greenprophet.com/2012/12/green-roof-fallen-sons-memorial/yad-lebanim-competition-by-fluhr-and-lehrer-1/" rel="attachment wp-att-87026"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-87026" title="Yad Lebanim Competition by Fluhr and Lehrer " src="https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-1-560x314.jpg" alt="green design, Israel, Yad Lebanim, green roof, design competition, urban park, Ramat Yishay" width="560" height="314" srcset="https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-1-560x314.jpg 560w, https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-1-350x196.jpg 350w, https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-1.jpg 1000w" sizes="(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px" /></a>Ramat Yishay is short on green public spaces, so Fluhr, Lehrer and Lehrer designed their memorial such that it would integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.</p>
<p>This is achieved in part with landscaped roof populated with only indigenous plant species that don&#8217;t require a great deal of water to maintain. The roof doubles as a promenade which counteracts land lost to the building&#8217;s footprint.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.greenprophet.com/2012/12/green-roof-fallen-sons-memorial/yad-lebanim-competition-by-fluhr-and-lehrer-2/" rel="attachment wp-att-87027"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-87027" title="Yad Lebanim Competition by Fluhr and Lehrer" src="https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-2-560x314.jpg" alt="green design, Israel, Yad Lebanim, green roof, design competition, urban park, Ramat Yishay" width="560" height="314" srcset="https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-2-560x314.jpg 560w, https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-2-350x196.jpg 350w, https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-2.jpg 1000w" sizes="(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px" /></a></p>
<p>Energy efficiency is yet another advantage of topping new developments with green roofs as they provide natural insulation in addition to improving air quality. An open courtyard forms the nucleus of the facility, which also boasts office space, a bathroom and various gathering areas.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.greenprophet.com/2012/12/green-roof-fallen-sons-memorial/yad-lebanim-competition-by-fluhr-and-lehrer-3/" rel="attachment wp-att-87028"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-87028" title="Yad Lebanim Competition by Fluhr and Lehrer " src="https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-3-560x350.jpg" alt="green design, Israel, Yad Lebanim, green roof, design competition, urban park, Ramat Yishay" width="560" height="350" srcset="https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-3-560x350.jpg 560w, https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-3-350x218.jpg 350w, https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-3-80x50.jpg 80w, https://www.greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Yad-Lebanim-Competition-by-Fluhr-and-Lehrer-3.jpg 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px" /></a></p>
<p>Completely integrated within the surrounding &#8220;parkscape,&#8221; the 500 square meter military memorial and community center fosters constant, intimate dialogue between the indoors and outdoors.</p>
