The subject of humane milking is a slippery issue and frankly, until now, it wasn’t altogether clear who in Israel is doing the job well. If such a thing is possible. But Amalia Rosenblum spent months researching the country’s various milk-producing facilities to separate the meat from the industry’s bones, at the end of which […]
Elephants, lions, and wolves are by nature free, roaming creatures that form complex social relationships. In the wild we have hunted them to near extinction and we have tethered them to cages and private homes. But animals bred or purchased by any of Egypt’s seven national zoos are especially unlucky: every day, zookeepers mete out […]
There are 250 rescued animals living at the BETA animal shelter just outside Beirut; too many for fancy villa owners. It should come as no surprise, after seeing the video of the Ethiopian maid Alem Dechasa being beaten by her employer, that Lebanon also has a deplorable animal rights record. We recently featured the devastating […]

The myth of Dracula haunting the living has a number of real-world side effects, and the worst one is the unfair demonization of bats. People have wrongly associated bats with death and disease. This is why they’ve been burned out of roosts and killed for years, though public education campaigns and government legislation are fighting […]
If you’ve traveled to India, Mexico, Amman, Jordan –– you see that dogs don’t have it so good.
