Breasts Age Faster Than Faces! 5 Tit Tips To Help Stem Sag

breast healthIn the race towards old age, our “girls” cross the finish line first!  Maybe not a prize you want to win, but breast tissue ages faster than the rest of our body according to a study published in the journal Genome Biology.

“Breast tissue goes on a roller coaster every time you gain and lose weight,” said Dr. Marisa Weiss, M.D., founder of Breast Cancer.org. Breasts swell before each menstruation and all during pregnancy and that size fluctuation wreaks havoc on delicate skin. Stretching means sagging and the only solution is constant moisturizing, Weiss told Women’s Health magazine. She recommends single-ingredient lotions like organic coconut oil.

Despite warnings by French scientists to ditch our bras, most women wear them.  It’s critical to find one that fits perfectly. “Have the support you need to avoid the stretching that happens with gravity,” Weiss said, offeringthese helpful tit tips:

1. Perform monthly self-exams:  Get to know your breast tissue over time so if anything changes, you’d be aware of it. Each month after your period, do a breast self-exam. Take note of any differences: print and post the handy graphic (below) from Dartmouth’ Norris Cotton Cancer Center as an easy visual guide.

2. Try a hooter-helping workout: “Exercise your upper body, especially the pectoral muscles,” said Weiss. Breasts sit atop these muscles, if they’re in shape the breasts will sit higher.

3. Stand Straight: The simplest way to fight sag is with perfect posture: a straight spine with pulled back shoulders will make your breasts look substantially bigger. Plus, it’s cheaper than fancy brassieres and surgery.

4. Keep chest skin clean and slather with sunscreen:  If your chest skin is acne-prone, tread gently to avoid scarring. Chest skin has seen a lot of sun over the years and doesn’t heal as well as other areas. When breakouts appear, use a gentle cleanser and OTC acne medication, preferably for sensitive skin. If it persists, see a dermatologist.  Use sunscreen every time your chest is exposed to the elements (even in low-cut tops) regardless of the season of the year.

“Just make sure that any personal care product you use is healthy for you,” said Weiss, “Remember that what goes on you, goes in you.” says Weiss. 5. Seek specialized treatment for battle scars: Breast skin is susceptible to stretch marks which are largely determined by your DNA.  “The pink color and puffiness that goes along with new stretch marks will fade and calm down over time,” said Weiss. But they’ll never fully disappear.
