Others claim there is no effect on birth weight.

Actually it’s her own decision and doesn’t have to do with Islam’s laws; in Islam she can fast later after Ramadan after she gives birth to her baby.

Those people need awareness about the medical risk and about religious teachings of Islam regarding this matter as well.
