Dear Sir Ajmal,
I really liked your post about the dune buggies. I am currently writing a research paper about the impacts of dune bashing and plastic bags on the desert environment. I found your post very useful. Hey there, Does!

I’m glad you liked my amateur post 🙂 I’m an ardent supporter of anything that has to do with nature and it’s wellbeing, so this post has been on my mind for quite a long while – I’m happy I got to finally type it down. You mention some serious implications there when you talk about the battle in Egypt. You can only imagine the impact it must’ve had during the actual event!!

I must say it took me a while to get comfortable at going out into the deserts/mountains on my own (all of 68 documented trips since 2009) 😉 so yeah, I have always been out alone. I carry a lot of handy gear (like a compass, camera, survival kit, med kit, LOTS OF WATER, etc.) with me but must say I get carried away the deeper I head into the deserts but I don’t push myself over the limit. I’m addicted to this right now and I love it! 🙂

Ajmal I really love your post. All this 4x4ing raises a lot of questions for me too. When I was in Wadi Rum, Jordan, I was quite disgusted to see that they used the word “sustainable development” to promote this weird hobby. Back here in Egypt they use the anekdote that 60 years after the battle in El Alamein the tracks are still visible to indicate how big an impact the 4×4’s have on the dunes you cruise through.

But equally interesting, you seem to be quite comfortable at going into the desert on your own. Do you mind to elaborate on how you organise yourself (to not get lost for example). I think a lot of us have been scared to the most obvious thing, just wander of in the wilderness.
