IDE Technologies wins ‘Best Company of 2011’ – but is it truly the best green company?
Selected from among 15 Israeli clean technology companies, Israeli-global company IDE Technologies was recently awarded the title of ‘Best Company of 2011’ by the 2011 Cleantech Exhibition. The company was granted the award for its contribution to the field of desalination and water technology – the very reason why an environmental organization such as Friends of the Earth Middle East may deem it unworthy of receiving such recognition.
Desalination in Israel is tricky business: on the one hand, it creates an alternative to the nation’s heavy reliance on winter rainfall. On the other hand, it is energy intensive, polluting, often privatized, and diminishes the importance of water conservation.
The award recipient was decided by a special panel that also organized and founded the Cleantech Exhibition. Among its reasons for spotlighting IDE Technologies is also included its impressive business growth over recent years and its international leadership in the field of water desalination.
Avshalom Felber, the CEO of IDE Technologies, said that “we are happy that the company is being recognized and proud to be part of the effort and assistance in dealing with the water crisis faced by Israel and the world through use of advanced and effective desalination technologies.”
To date IDE Technologies has constructed over 400 desalination devices of various sizes (including some of the largest in the world) in 40 countries all over the world.
