UAE high school students have a chance to flex their eco-blogging muscles for Green Prophet’s writing competition.
Green Prophet is launching a blogging competition for green-minded UAE students. In order to encourage students to think about environmental issues in the Emirates and the role that they play in improving them, we are inviting students from across the UAE to submit blog entries. One winning blog from each high school will be published on Green Prophet. Details, deadlines, rules and how this came about after the jump.
On Thursday morning, yours truly will land in the United Arab Emirates for a three week extended tour of all things green. Sponsored in part by Global Ocean – a non-profit organization that is hosting a series of screenings of The End of the Line, a documentary that takes a searing look at the consequences of commercial fishing on our oceans – Green Prophet will be represented at various universities throughout the UAE.
We were also invited to give a presentation to high school students at Al Ittihad Model School for Boys. There we will have the opportunity not only to raise awareness about important environmental issues that Emiratis face, but we will also have a chance to hear from the students.
We are very interested to understand the level of awareness among high school students, which we believe is higher than in most Arab countries because of the push from on-high to promote energy, water, and wildlife conservation. To reinforce our convictions, we are asking students to demonstrate just how eco-savvy they really are.
The question that participants of the first ever UAE high school blogging should address in their blog post is as follows:
What do you think is the most important environmental issue in the United Arab Emirates, why, and what can each individual do to address it?
Deadlines and Rules:
Blog posts should be sent to [email protected] by 30 May, 2011.
One winning entry will be posted per day starting 15 June, 2011.
Blog posts should be no longer than 500 words and must be written in English.
In order for individual entries to be considered, there should be at least 15 entries per high school.
Entries will be judged by the creativity of ideas and presentation, quality of language used, and level of research.
Green Prophet will own the copyright of all winning posts and no payment will be offered.
Students are encouraged to submit images and videos along with their blog posts.
