Participate in Greenpeace and jovoto’s Design Competition, “Creativity for the Energy Revolution”

Help Greenpeace and jovoto bring renewable energy to Germany with awesome graphic design

Are you a creative designer looking to use your aesthetic powers towards eco-friendly means?  Greenpeace and jovoto’s joint design contest, Creativity for the Energy Revolution, is a good place to start.  The competition attempts to use cool design to spread the message about converting Germany’s current energy production system from nuclear and charcoal generated energy to solar, wind, water power, biogas and geothermal energy.

jovoto has already sponsored green design competitions in the past, including a recent one attempting to find a design for a sustainable coffee cup.

So what is the actual Greenpeace campaign about?  The German federal government wants to submit a new national energy concept next month to codify the country’s energy policy for the next few decades.  And so the country is at a crossroads – will it move increasingly towards renewable energy with the goal of 100% renewable energy by 2050?

In jovoto’s own words,

“Will [Germany] continue with hazardous nuclear energy and climate-damaging charcoal or will it focus on a consistent change that will lead to renewable energy?  If all energy is focused on the expansion of renewables, by 2050 Germany will have covered up to 100 percent of its power requirements with sun, wind and water power as well as biogas and geothermal energy.  And by this, Germany will be able to face the biggest challenge for all mankind: the climate change.”

Submissions for Creativity for the Energy Revolution will be accepted through August 15th and the winner will receive 2,500 Euros.  (Check out the designs above to see what the competition looks like.)
