10th Kuwaiti Conference on Natural Resources and Development Kicking Off Tomorrow

If you haven’t yet bought your flight (carbon offset of course!), it might be too late to get in on the great action at the Global Development Network’s 10th Annual Conference on “Natural Resources and Development” in Kuwait. But the conference organizers have set up an RSS feed for you to follow. Smart move.

Hosted by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) at their headquarters in Kuwait City, Kuwait from February 3 – 5, 2009 (some discrepancy with the poster dates), the conference will provide a platform to further the debate on the crucial relationship between natural resources and development.

We don’t see a lot of details on the website, but imagine there will be talks of solar energy, and other renewables such as wind, that Gulf nations are trying to develop.

The event will feature eminent academic makers and members of multilateral development organizations. The conference opening session will be featuring remarks from the honorable H.E Mohammed al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, State of Kuwait and Abdlatif Yousef Al-Hamad, Director General and Chairman of (AFESD).

What’s the Global Development Network?

From their website: “The Global Development Network (GDN) is a leading international organization working with developing country researchers and policy research institutes to support the generation and sharing of world-class policy-relevant research on development, helping to strengthen capacity in the process. Founded in 1997, GDN is now headquartered in New Delhi, with supporting offices in Cairo and Washington.

“GDN works in collaboration with eleven regional partners. Eight regional partners are based in developing countries and three in developed countries. GDN partners with various international donor organizations and Governments, a worldwide network of research institutes, academic institutions, think tanks and more than 7,000 individual researchers worldwide. These Networks help in supporting the five core activities of GDN.”

There you have it.
