Carlos Motta, Inspiration from Brazil

The tell-tale sign of an apartment being renovated in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem is the huge green dumpster holding piles of wood, doors, windows and tiles. Green Prophet says it’s time to reclaim some of those perfectly useful materials instead of sending them to landfill.

Why not bypass that trip to IKEA and create simple, useful and beautiful furniture from material rescued from the trash. Be inspired by the creations of Brazilian designer Carlos Motta.

Inspired by the desert beaches of the southern coast of São Paulo, Brazil, Motta spent a lot of time way back in the 1970s at the beach collecting driftwood.

Today in São Paulo Motta creates furniture from recycled wood such as driftwood, recycled wood from home demolitions, and pieces found around shores and rivers.

Look at the simplicity of the lines. The raw look and feel to the wood. We think that a quick trip to the ACE store to buy a saw and a few nails, and some cruising around some dumpsters in the city, will give rise to a few new Motta-inspired pieces of furniture.

  1. Casement windows: Available in both side-hinged and top-hinged, these windows are
known for their high level of security. All you have to do is select beforehand the best colour that will
not only match the style of your house, but also suit your personal taste.
However, with regards to lighting both windows are equal contenders.

  2. Try Instructables:

This chair is about as easy as it gets…

Hi, does anyone have a good “recipe” for how to make chairs from scrap lumber. Is there a website with easy to follow instructions and diagrams?

    Thank you!
