green beanie award JTA Jewish photoTu B’Shevat, otherwise known as Jewish Earth Day, is a time for Jews in Israel and beyond to focus on their responsibility to the environment.

In the Jewish community, there are many innovative initiatives that fulfill this responsibility, and the Jewish newswire service, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) wants to tell the world about them.

Does your organization have a green initiative that you think everyone should know about? Have you gone beyond “reduce, reuse, recycle” to make a positive impact on the environment?

If so, go to jta.org/greenbeanie by Friday, January 23rd and let the newswire know! Entries will be evaluated by Nigel Savage and Barbara Lerman-Golomb from Hazon, Nina Beth Cardin
from the Coaltion for the Environment and Jewish Life (COEJL), and Adam Berman from the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center. The JTA will also be including a resource list for any ongoing projects or upcoming events.

All initiatives must have been started in 2008, or planned for this year’s Tu B’Shevat holiday. For more information, contact Rachel at [email protected] or call 212.643.1890, ext. 200.

JTA is the definitive, trusted global source of the Jewish people. Throughout its 90-year history, JTA has established a reputation for journalistic integrity, outstanding reporting and insightful analysis. It has no allegiance to any specific branch of Judaism or political viewpoint.
